- the Facts:
- Average stay is a week to 10 days
- Demand has increased 12-15% per year
- Most of the homeless people living in Connecticut
suffer from income problems, not mental health or addiction issues,
studies show (Hartford Courant, Oct. 5, 2002)
- Perception: illiterate, mostly male, unemployed,
old. Reality: mostly high school graduates, 20% have jobs, middle-aged
and getting younger, more and more women

across Connecticut are turning away record numbers of people. MACC's
Samaritan Shelter could sleep many more homeless women if we had the
beds.
